Philips AED Recall and Rebate Offer 2019

Philips AED

If you’ve received formal letters recently from Philips Healthcare regarding their voluntary AED recall and their consent decree agreement with the FDA you may be unclear how to proceed.  Should you keep your AEDs or replace them?  At AED One-Stop Shop we’ve received lots of customer phone calls and emails since as we’re an authorized National Philips distributor and an online seller of this equipment via the popular purchaseAEDs.com webstore.  Many customers are confused by the language and want an interpretation.  So here are a few take home points from the letter and what’s happening with the Philips HeartStart AEDs:

  • The recall affects only the Philips HeartStart OnSite, HS1, FRx and Home Defibrillator AEDs
  • The Philips HeartStart FR, Forerunner, FR2 and FR2+ AEDs are not affected, but these devices are old and should be replaced with newer life-saving devices like the OnSite model
  • Only AEDs manufactured from 2002 to early 2013 are affected by the component issue
  • AEDs which sound a triple audible chirp in tandem with a flashing red indicator mean that the AED should be taken out of service and you should contact Philips Technical Support at 800-263-3342
  • If your AED is not chirping but you’ve received a letter or believe your AEDs were purchased in that 11-year span you should have your serial numbers checked by AED One-Stop Shop at 855-677-2337
  • Philips estimates that 99.9% of their AEDs are safe and their AEDs are responsible for countless human lives saved
  • It is reassuring to know that the newly manufactured Philips HeartStart AEDs like the FRx, OnSite and Home Defibrillator went through a recent technology upgrade
  • The particularly troublesome component (also known as R92) has been replaced for the newer AEDs and thus there’s no known risk of this issue happening
  • Other product enhancements and labeling were put into place to increase the reliability and ease-of-use of the Philips Automated External Defibrillators
  • Customers who do have AEDs that have been identified by AED One-Stop Shop or Philips as being affected can leverage a generous Philips Rebate Promotion through which offer instant rebates ranging from $50 – $625 per AED device
